Thank you for inquiring about a partnership with your church or religious group and Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County, Florida.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard and poverty housing and homelessness from the earth and is a servant of the church. The biblical mandates of caring for the poor and serving God by serving others are at the heart of Habitat's work. The mission of Habitat and the church is the same: to witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Habitat is a blessing not only to homeowners, but also to those who volunteer to build homes or help in other ways. Many volunteers say they have developed a deeper relationship with God, and congregations often experience a new sense of purpose and empowerment when they become Habitat partners.

What do Churches Provide to Habitat?

  • Prayer and Spiritual Support;
  • Labor: volunteer and skilled leadership;
  • Resources: funding and in-kind donations;
  • Potential for long-term, growing relationships.

What does Habitat Provide for Churches?

  • Bridge for mission ministry that we share;
  • "Hands on" opportunities to work with, not do for, God's people in need;
  • Chances to build even more new homes for God's people around the world;
  • Opportunities to share common goals with the least, the last, and the lost;
  • Excitement generated within the congregation;
  • A means to builid a sense of community within the congregation, and with neighbors from different walks of life
  • Increase in membership as people seek a church that lives out its faith; and
  • A means of increasing church giving to outreach without undermining the church's general budget. Persons tend to give above and beyond their normal giving if they are challenged by, and committed to, the ministry.
